A Marriage Worth Fighting For - Lilian Darcy (HSE #2200 - July 2012)

Series: McKinley Medics (Book 3)

When Alicia McKinley agreed to a whirlwind Las Vegas wedding, she'd been swept away by the sheer romance of it all. How could she not say "I do" to Michael James McKinley, the gorgeous doctor who offered her everything she'd ever dreamed of? Still, after years of coming in second to MJ's career, it was time to say "I don't" to the workaholic husband who took her totally for granted.

But MJ is not a man who gives up without a fight. He and Alicia might not have a perfect marriage, but now that he knows what is on the line, he is determined to risk everything—including his heart—for a second chance with his wife!

Very good book.  This one was unusual, as the main characters have been married for seven years already.  Although she hadn't been in love with MJ when they married, she has grown to love him very much.  She has been the perfect wife, supporting him, raising his children, doing everything she thought he wanted.  But she spends most of her time alone since he works very long hours, and she has gotten tired of it.  So she packs up the kids and leaves New York for Vermont.  MJ is stunned, as he didn't realize that she was unhappy - she had never said anything.  He follows her to Vermont with the intention of bringing her back.  But she puts her foot down and he consents to trying to work things out.  Over the next few weeks as they spend time together they work at getting to know each other and their expectations.  There are many issues to work out and both of them realize that they each had a part in their problems.  When a crisis brings them together, they realize that they truly love each other and are able to come together stronger than ever.  I enjoyed this book and its different point of view.  It showed that communication is very important, and showing appreciation for one's spouse is critical. I liked the way that MJ was determined to work things out, and found his frequent cluelessness appealing.

A Doctor in His House - Lilian Darcy (HSE #2186 - May 2012)

Series: McKinley Medics (Book 2)

Burned-out doctor Scarlett McKinley needed a hero…and sexy cop Daniel Porter fit the bill. The problem was, when she'd met him six years ago while rebounding from a divorce, their five-alarm affair hadn't been enough to keep them together. But now that a serious ordeal put her in close quarters with the man who still sent her pulse racing, it was time to find out if the second time's the charm.

Sworn to protect and serve, Daniel knew his connection to Scarlett went deeper than that. He'd let their different social circles take her from his arms once, but he wouldn't let it happen again. Because now he was determined to heal her with love that will last a lifetime!

Good book.  Scarlett had come to Vermont to regain some balance in her life after working so much that the stress was impacting her health.  She did not expect to be reunited with Daniel.  Their short affair earlier had not ended well.  Both of them had been very into each other physically, but kept themselves closed off emotionally.  Scarlett had been recovering from her divorce, and Daniel had never felt that he was good enough for her.  Now they were together again.  The physical was just as intense, and they were still fighting the same emotional battles.  This time, though, Scarlett had no intention of letting it separate them.  I liked the way she was finally able to tell her dad to get off her back - he was definitely not expecting it.  And I liked the way that her mom took Scarlett's side.  Daniel kept trying to keep Scarlett from getting too close, but this time she wasn't putting up with it.  It was a slow process, but I could see that he was starting to come around, until Scarlett's ex-husband tried to get her back.  I liked Daniel's defense of her, but didn't like the hit to his self-confidence.  The conclusion was terrific.  I'm looking forward to the final book in the set.

Daddy On Her Doorstep - Lilian Darcy (HSE #2176 - Mar 2012)

Series: McKinley Medics (Book 1)

Obstetrician Andrew McKinley was intrigued by his new single tenant and neighbor, who looked about ready to pop—and also about ready to jump down the throat of anyone who even hinted that she might need some help. So he knew he should not get involved. But with Claudia showing every sign of labor, what could he do but come to her aid?

Manhattan accountant Claudia Nelson was a self-confessed control freak. Research, plans, schedules—that was her approach to everything, including having her baby. Suddenly nothing was happening as she'd expected. Because after going to so much trouble to go it alone, how could the man on her doorstep turn out to be her knight in shining scrubs?

Really good book.  I loved Andy.  He was a terrific doctor, able to keep his patients calm and relate well to them, while maintaining a good doctor-patient relationship.  I loved how laid back he was.  When Claudia moved into the other side of his house, he tried very hard not to get over-involved in her life - a problem of his, according to his uptight father.  But there was something about her that seemed to cry out for his involvement.  Claudia had decided to do the whole single parent thing by herself, depending on no one.  She was very into planning and schedules.  What she didn't realize is that babies don't follow plans.  And when she went into labor early, she didn't know what to do.  Fortunately Andy was there to lend a hand.  They spent most of the book bouncing back and forth between involved and pulling back.  Seeing their internal conversations with themselves was pretty funny.  I liked the way they finally worked things out.  I'm looking forward to the other two books.
