Next time you pass Major Forrest Traub on the street, make sure you give
him a real Thunder Canyon- style welcome. The handsome soldier hasn't
smiled much since moving here from Rust Creek Falls, but this hasn't
deterred our favorite do-gooder, Angie Anderson. Angie's convinced she's
met the man she's going to marry.
Forrest sees Angie as a rosy-eyed optimist, too young and innocent for a
man who's lived through Iraq. Yet her irresistible warmth may actually
be thawing his hardened heart. Suddenly she's got him volunteering with
teens, arranging holiday events, even-"gasp"-smiling. Can Angie's
unwavering faith rescue Forrest from himself? Give thanks, loyal
readers, for your many blessings-and hope that Angie and Forrest can
find theirs.
Very good book. I really liked both Forrest and Angie. Forrest had come to Thunder Canyon because of a doctor there that is helping with the leg wound Forrest got in Iraq. Because of the wound and his nightmares, he has been pretty much a loner feeling that he is too "damaged" to be any good in a relationship. He has started coming out of his shell a little bit while working with a therapy dog and has started a support group for veterans. When he meets Angie he sees her as a very young Pollyanna type. But he is attracted to her and doesn't want to be. He soon finds that she has talked him into helping out with her teens and other projects. He also discovers that being around her has made him feel better. I loved the way that he keeps trying to pull back but Angie won't let him. They work together very well with the projects she involves him in. I loved the way that talking to other veterans about relationships helped him realize he could have it all. Angie was a force all by herself. She is great at getting people involved in things and is so positive that they can't help but agree. She does have some self-esteem issues with not knowing what she wants to do with her life. She was attracted to Forrest from the time she met him and went after him with a single minded focus. Even though he tried to keep her at a distance, she just wouldn't stay away. I loved her tactics when she took care of him when he was sick. I also liked the way she didn't give up on him at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in later books.

"Invasion of the Baby Mavericks "
What
could be more of a handful than a babbling, bouncing baby? How about
"two?" Sexy single dad Clayton Traub already has a full plate with
adorable six-month-old Bennett. But now tipsters tell us Clay's got a
new main squeeze in Antonia Wright. Yes, "that" Antonia-feisty,
independent and eight months pregnant.
Antonia knows better than
to fall for a wrangler bunking at her boardinghouse-"particularly" in
her condition. But how can she resist Clay's magnetism when he's living
so close? Never underestimate the power of a Traub, big or small. Stay
tuned, rough riders, and see if the cowboy daddy can lasso Toni's heart.
Good book. Clay has come to Thunder Canyon for two reasons: one, to keep his brother Forrest company as he works with a veteran's group, and two, to get away from the gossips in his Texas hometown. They and his infant son are living at Antonia's boardinghouse. Clay finds that he really likes Antonia, who is also very good with his son. She is also very pregnant and not interested in forming any relationships. I liked both Clay and Antonia. Antonia had been deserted by her boyfriend as soon as he found out she was pregnant. But she is very independent and quite determined that she can handle being a single mother. She also finds that she is very attracted to Clay, but blames it on her hormones. As she gets to know him, she discovers that she really likes him, and those feelings start to strengthen. She also knows that any relationship they have will end as soon as she has her baby, since he has stated that he has no interest in going through that again. I liked her independence, though she certainly seemed to go overboard with it at times. Clay is a great hero. I love the way that he stepped up to being a dad, even though it had not been in his plans. He obviously adores his son and I love seeing him be a daddy. He also has no intentions of having any sort of permanent relationships, intending to devote his time to his son. He is just as attracted to Antonia as she is to him, and loves getting to know her. He is still thinking about a no commitment relationship up until she goes into labor. I loved seeing him work at convincing Antonia of his love, and his proposal at the end was terrific.

Found: One genuine cowboy, in need of a cowgirl!
Folks in Thunder Canyon all remember the broad-shouldered, blond cowpoke
with the green eyes and somber expression. We haven't seen Cody Overton
smile much in the years since he lost his wife.
But there's been a strange discovery inside Catherine Clifton's new
secondhand boutique, Real Vintage Cowboy. Rumor has it that the eldest
Clifton sister has found Cody Overton's heart! Is it true that cutie
Catherine has put the spring back in Cody's boot-scootin' step? Stay
tuned, smart shoppers, and find out whether Catherine and Cody can seal
the deal -- and what other surprises the sassy shopkeeper might have in
store!
Very good book. Cody has been pretty much of a recluse since his wife's death eight years ago. He misses his wife still and has no expectation of starting a new relationship. When he goes into the new antique store looking for a gift for his sister, he saves Catherine from a nasty fall. He doesn't expect a zing of attraction. Catherine has started her store as a way to assert her own independence. She is the oldest girl of eight children and seems to have spent most of her life taking care of other people. She wants a chance to do her own thing. She asks Cody to help her pick out things for her shop that might appeal to guys like him. While helping her Cody finds that he starts to feel again and that Catherine brings him a peace and happiness he never expected to feel again. I really liked both Cody and Catherine. Cody had been numb for so long that I loved seeing him come back to life. It was fun watching him with Catherine at first. She was so bright and cheerful he just didn't seem to know how to deal with her. He also seemed a little clueless about the things she would say and ask, but he got better. Catherine had spent so long being the "capable, level headed" one in her family that she had no idea how beautiful and fun she was. She had a hard time believing Cody when he would compliment her. She was also sure that the relationship they were having wouldn't last, and almost ruined it herself with her lack of confidence. There were two especially memorable parts for me. I loved the part where Cody took Catherine riding and the fast one she pulled on him. And I loved the part when Cody went pounding on her door at 3 am. Her family's reactions were terrific.

Love me, love my...doctor?
Tongues
are wagging all over town that bubbly, quirky pet therapist Annabel
Cates has been spotted keeping company with Dr. Thomas North. Yes, that
Dr. North-the ever-serious, oh-so-gorgeous and utterly unattainable
orthopedic surgeon who has dashed the hopes of so many Thunder Canyon
cowgirls.
Will Annabel really be able to domesticate the medical
maverick? Folks round these parts can't understand how two such
emotionally opposite people even got together. (We give the
credit to an unlikely matchmaker with four paws and a winning smile!)
Stay tuned, faithful friends, and find out if sexy Dr. North can stay
immune to this adorable Cates sister and her irresistible pup!
Very good book. I loved Annabel. When she showed up at the hospital to be there for her cousin Forrest, she refused to take no for an answer from the serious and logical Dr. North. Not only did she get to stay for the appointment, she even got him to allow her to set up some therapy sessions there at the hospital. He thought the whole pet therapy thing was hogwash, but he couldn't seem to say no. And then he surprised himself and her by asking her out on a date. I really loved the way that she brought some fun and lightness to his life. Thomas had made some mistakes in his past that he attributed to allowing his emotions to get the better of him, so he had decided that he wouldn't allow them that power again. The more time he spent with Annabel, the more he was amazed at how well and quickly she had fit into his life, and that scared him. He didn't want to find himself making mistakes because he was distracted by feelings. I liked his grandmother and the way that she explained things to him that made him finally see the light. The final scene with Thomas at the animal shelter was so sweet. I hope we don't have to wait too long for Forrest's story.

Very good book. Jace was in Montana for a family reunion. He was also trying to figure out a new direction for his life. He realized he wasn't happy working for the family oil business any more, but he didn't know what he did want to do. The problem is, everyone in his family is trying to tell him to come back to the business and not listening to him. He leaves the family get-together for a little while and meets Joss. She is there having an "unhoneymoon". She had found her groom and her bridesmaid together at the church on her wedding day and had called off the wedding then and there. Now she is trying to get herself back together. She and Jace start talking and decide to hang out together as friends. She'll come to some things with him as protection from his family's interference and they'll just have some fun. I loved their idea of just being friends, even though I knew that it wouldn't stay that way. They spent the week doing things together, getting to know each other, and just having fun. I could see them get closer, and that they were developing feelings for each other. By the end of the week there was some serious attraction going on and they decided to act on it that last night before Joss was due to go home. The next day they decided that, since neither one believed in love any more, but they truly liked each other, they would get married and buy The Hitching Post bar and run it together. They could also have the family they wanted without the messy emotions. Needless to say, that didn't last long. Joss soon realized that she had fallen in love with Jace, and told him so. He panicked, but she said it didn't matter (yeah, right). The day of the wedding there was a big scene when her ex-fiance showed up, and Jace realized that he'd been an idiot. I really loved all the scenes of Joss and Jace getting to know each other, from the horseback riding to just walking around the town. It made a nice change from the bed first, then getting to know each other of some romances.
