This was the only Stanislaski book I hadn't read yet and I'm so glad I finally got a copy. Rachel is a public defender who got tagged with helping Nick. He had been caught robbing an electronics store, but she could see that he wasn't a hardened criminal. The judge assigned her to coguardian Nick along with his stepbrother Zack. There were sparks between the two from the beginning, but Rachel tried to keep things professional. Zack wasn't having any part of that - he was deeply attracted to her and made sure she knew it. Rachel could see that Zack really wanted to do what was best for Nick, and she could see that Nick's biggest problem was that he felt alone. Being the hardheaded guys that they were neither one was any good at expressing feeling to each other so Rachel had her work cut out for her. She also had to deal with her growing feelings for Zack and the crush that Nick had on her. I loved seeing how much Zack cared about Nick, but how lost he was about showing him. I liked the way that Rachel was able to show both guys how much the other cared. I also loved the way he was there for Rachel when she was attacked and how the tender side of him showed up through the tough guy attitude. I really enjoyed the closeness of the Stanislaski family and how they welcomed Zack and Nick into it. I loved the way that Rachel and her brother Alex had such a rivalry going on but their love for each other was apparent throughout. I really liked the judge and her discussion with Rachel at the bar, and then her ruling in the courtroom at the end. One of these days I will have to reread the other Stanislaski books.

Very good book and terrific conclusion to the series. I really liked both Raif and Ann. Ann has been at the center of scandal since the first book. The controversy over the statue and accusations of theft have made her life very difficult. Now Raif has taken her and won't let her go until he has the statue. In every encounter with him the attraction gets stronger. Once they get past the issue of the statue Ann finds that there in a lot in Raif that she respects and likes. She soon realizes that she has fallen in love with him but that it can't go anywhere. He will soon be king and cannot marry her. I liked seeing her time in Rayas and how she managed there. I liked her determination to help find the statue and how she wanted to help Raif's cousin Kalila. I also liked the way that she was so willing to give him up so he could do the right thing. I loved Raif. He has that whole alpha male confidence thing going on, and the certainty that duty is more important than anything else. Watching him realize that love matters was very satisfying. He was so sure that he was right and willing to do anything to get his statue back. He had great interactions with his cousin Tariq over his actions with Ann. He was very focused on his goal and couldn't understand why he could not get Ann out of his mind. I liked his protectiveness when he decided that whatever was going on with the statue might be a plot against Ann and that he needed to keep her safe. He was miserable over the fact that he couldn't have Ann. I loved the conclusion and his methods. The mystery of who was behind the trouble was solved. Also solved was the identity of the man who helped each of the six couples find their happy endings.

Very good book and conclusion to the series. Tate is determined to bring down the sex trafficking ring and rescue Hannah Troyer and the other girls. When his cover is blown, he and Hannah go on the run until the mastermind can be captured. Tate is drawn to Hannah in a way he's never been to anyone before. There is something about her that speaks to his heart. I loved the way that Tate protected her. I also enjoyed seeing his delight when he took her shopping, when they saw the decorated store windows, and the Rockefeller Center tree. Tate fought the attraction because Hannah is not from his world and he fully expects her to return to hers. I loved the ending when he just couldn't let her go. We didn't see much of Hannah in the first three books, but I did get the impression that she didn't behave like the typical Amish girl. When Tate first sees her he can tell that she hasn't had her spirit broken. I really liked the way that she was able to follow along with what Tate needed when they went on the run. I enjoyed seeing her as she was exposed to things outside her community. Hannah felt amazed at everything that was out there, but even more amazed at her growing feelings for Tate. I loved her confidence in Tate, that he would be able to keep her safe. The hospital scene at the end was great. I loved the epilogue also.

Very good book. I have been looking forward to Roark's book and it was just as good as I expected. Roark needs help to rescue the auction house and preserve his reputation. It was suggested to him that it would help if he were seen to be settling down. He had met Elizabeth and was attracted to her, so he offered to help her if she would help him. I really liked both Elizabeth and Roark. Elizabeth has made the decision that she wants a family of her own. She has had bad luck with men, ending up with losers who end up hurting her. So she has tried in vitro, but has been unsuccessful and is out of money. By helping Roark she will get enough to try again. She finds that her attraction to him is interfering with her ability to keep her distance. When she decides to just give in and enjoy it, she finds that she is also falling for him. I enjoyed the way that, even though she was falling for him, she still managed to stand up to him when she needed to. I also liked the way that she began to see the Roark that he worked so hard to keep hidden. I also loved the way she got what she wanted in the most unexpected way. I've liked Roark from the beginning of the series. I love the way that he works so hard to find the artifacts and that he gets them in an honest way. I could see that his travels were a way for him to escape the guilt he felt over leaving his mother. He wants to help save the auction house so he goes to Elizabeth with his proposal. This serves two purposes. It makes him appear to be settling down and it also allows him to get closer to her. He has been drawn to her from the moment he met her. What he doesn't expect is that being with Elizabeth makes him feel more content than he ever has before. When he is away from her she is never far from his mind. When he finds out the truth about his parents it frees him from some of his guilt and enables him to offer all of himself to Elizabeth. I'm really looking forward to the next book and the resolution of the mystery.

Very good book. I liked both Jack and Willow though each had their parts I didn't like too. Jack is the celebrity host of Willow's show and the guy that stood her up for prom in high school. Now he's all grown up, super good looking and too charming to be real in her opinion. He is a workaholic who considers himself to be a loner. He enjoys women, but doesn't get serious about anyone. He has decided he wants Willow and will do whatever he needs to to have her. He doesn't understand why she keeps shutting him down, but keeps asking until she says yes to going out with him. Pretty soon he finds himself thinking in terms of a future. But he is something of a control freak and has a hard time making himself open up to that kind of vulnerability. Willow is also a workaholic and control freak. She never lets herself get too close to anyone. She goes out with Jack the first time with an eye to making him fall for her and then walking away to get revenge. She immediately discovers that he is different than the boy she went to school with and that there are some things about him that she really likes. But she is afraid of opening herself up to more heartbreak and tries to keep part of herself locked away. She too finds herself thinking in terms of a future with Jack, but then he finds out about her revenge plan. He is furious and hurt and walks away from her, vowing to go back to his lone wolf ways. Both of them had serious work to do to overcome their issues. I loved Willow's plan for her apology - it was definitely unique and lots of fun.

Okay book. Sophie is a driven, career focused woman. She is also a workaholic who even works at home on the weekends. Her weekends lately have been disrupted by her neighbor's renovation work and she's finally had enough. When she goes upstairs to complain she is stunned by the gorgeous guy that he is. He is also very laid back and ten years younger than she is. Grant was once as driven as she is, but a tragedy forced him to reevaluate his life. Now he makes sure to have balance in his life and has given up the high pressure life he had before to do the historic renovation work that he loves. He wants to help Sophie see that there is more to life than her master plan. He lures her out of her apartment to do some fun things with him. He also feels the same attraction to her, but the age difference doesn't bother him. He knows that if he can get her to relax they'll be great together. I liked Sophie okay, but her tunnel vision regarding her job, her master plan, and the age difference bugged me. I know it was necessary for the story, but I had a hard time feeling any real empathy with her. I liked Grant a little better. His attitude was a little overboard the other way because of the guilt he felt over his friend. I did like the way that he was trying to help Sophie, and I did like the way things worked out in the end.
Isn't it every girl's fantasy to have one of NYPD's finest living next door? I love a man in uniform!
Unless, of course, he's Daniel Brannigan -- older brother of my best
friend, with an ego the size of Texas and a reckless streak a mile wide.

So this is one fantasy I'm refusing to indulge in. But did I mention he used to be a Marine? Apparently they like a challenge….
Good book. Daniel moved in next door to Jo, not knowing that she was there. Jo didn't expect Daniel to be moving in there either. They have struck sparks off each other from the beginning, with snarky comments the norm whenever they are together. There's something different this time - the sparks are accompanied by some heat. Daniel is back home after his time in the Marines, and is happy to be back doing what he loves. However, he brought nightmares back with him and he doesn't intend to share those with anyone. But Jo can hear his shouts through the walls. Jo has her own secret - she spends a fair amount of time taking care of her alcoholic father. Daniels finds out about those visits and refuses to let her go to that neighborhood alone. As they spend time together the snarkiness is still there, but it is gentler and more teasing. The attraction between them increases also. I really liked the way that Daniel was so protective of Jo, even though she was so independent. It caused some problems for them, but I loved the way that Jo came to terms with it. I also really liked the way that Jo worried about Daniel and how he was dealing with his nightmares. I loved Liz's interference at the end. Oh yes - and thank you to the editor of this one for realizing that Marine is always capitalized.

Good book. Nichole really wanted an interview with Conner, but he never gives interviews. She crashed his family's Fourth of July party to meet him. They immediately felt an intense attraction to each other. Conner told Nichole he would do an interview if she became his mistress for a month. She didn't really want to, as she felt it would negate the hard work she put into her career. She finally decided she would, mainly because she was so drawn to him; the interview would be a bonus. Conner really wanted her in his bed, but planned to keep her so distracted that she would forget about asking her questions. Thanks to his scandalous father and a bad experience with a reporter, Conner never talks about his past, and refuses to let his emotions take over. Nichole is also cautious - she plans to devote herself to her career for several more years before looking for a husband. As they spent time together, Nichole saw more of the man under Conner's surface and the more she liked him. He also liked her, but her ability to see through him scared him. When she asked him to give them a chance, he refused and she walked out. I liked the fact that she stood up for what she believed and wouldn't settle for less than what she deserved. When he finally saw the light he did it in a big way. I also liked seeing Gail from the first book in the series, and there was an appearance of Cam and Becca from the Miami Nights series.

I really liked this book. Max came back to New York when his mom called to help out with the competition. He was not expecting to find Jules working as a chef in the kitchen. He remembered her from when they were kids - she was his brother's friend and several years younger. He left home because he and his father couldn't agree on how to do things in the kitchen. Gus wanted to stick with tradition and Max wanted to try some new things. Jules wasn't happy to see him return. She didn't think they needed his help, especially since he couldn't be bothered to come back on his own. The other problem is that she is still very attracted to him - and doesn't want to be. She has had a couple bad experiences with men and has no intention of getting involved again. Within a few days she realizes that there is no reason she shouldn't enjoy herself with him short-term, since he'll be leaving after the competition. I really enjoyed the interactions in this book. Besides Max and Jules, there was also Max's relationships with his dad and his brother, Jules's relationship with her mother, and the team relationships with each other. All the interaction was very realistic to me. I also loved all the kitchen scenes, seeing each member work together for the whole, and the visit to the market to decide their ingredients. My favorite scenes were the competition ones, where each person brought their best and supported each other. The ending was also terrific, when Max finally figured out what he'd been searching for all those years he was gone, and Jules was able to finally let go of her past. I will definitely be reading the other books she has written.

Good book. The book starts with a news story printed about Waverly's CEO that threatens the business. Vance is determined that nothing will bring it down. He is concerned that his new assistant may be the one leaking information to the press. He decides that getting close to her would be a good idea - no hardship as he is very attracted to her. Charlie doesn't know what to do. She has been receiving blackmail emails, threatening her son if she doesn't comply. When Vance asks her out, and is good to her and her son, she keeps trying to delay the blackmailer. Finally, she can't stand it any more and tells Vance everything. As they work together to find the blackmailer, they continue to grow closer. I really liked both Vance and Charlie. I love the way that Charlie wants only the best for her son, and works hard to make that happen. She loves the auction business and is trying to learn everything she can about it. I also liked the way that she refused to give in to the blackmailer and went to Vance. Vance was a little harder to like at the beginning, with his decision to try to romance Charlie for information. I did like the fact that that didn't last past the first time they went out together. I loved seeing him in the kid-friendly restaurant, so completely out of his comfort zone. I also liked how quickly he came to care for both Charlie and Jake, even though he didn't recognize it as love. It took their falling out at the end for him to realize just why he felt so right when he was with them. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Good book. Alex and Gwen enjoyed their two week fling and moved on. Neither one was interested in a relationship. Eight months later they met again at a friend's house. Alex wanted to pick up where they had left off, as he hadn't been able to forget her. He was surprised to find out that she was pregnant, but she assured him the baby wasn't his. She really wasn't interested in continuing, as she was trying to move on with her life. For both of them, the attraction was too strong and they gave in. Alex was commitment shy because of his past. His parents don't have a good marriage and it has caused him to believe that love doesn't really exist. Gwen wants to believe, but her mother is always on the hunt for a man and it has caused Gwen to be very wary of relationships. I loved seeing Alex and Gwen together and see their interactions. I thought it was terrific the way that Alex tried to take care of Gwen and do things for her, not realizing that he was doing it out of love, not lust. Alex's trip to New Orleans to meet with his project manager was great, and I loved her reactions to his problems.

Wow - just wow. I had a feeling Cam's story was going to be pretty incredible and I was right. I could see in the previous books that he was pretty closed off/cynical. When this one started out with him lusting after Pippa I had a feeling it was going to be intense. When he started out their night with the statement that it would be one night only, no contact after, etc, I could see he was setting himself up for the fall. Pippa started out saying he should get over himself, that's all she wanted too, but she knew she could easily fall in love with him. When she ended up pregnant, it terrified Cam - he'd already lost a wife and child and couldn't face it again. Cam spent the book fighting his feelings. One day he'd be kind and friendly and the next he'd backed off and was cold and forbidding. Pippa knew pretty quickly that she'd fallen in love with Cam. She couldn't understand why he acted the way he did. Once she found out, she understood, but made it clear that he had a decision to make. There were several places that brought me to tears, but the final confrontation and follow-on had the tears flowing so bad I could hardly read. This was absolutely the best of Maya Banks' books I have read so far.

Very good book. Gail is tired of being alone and signed up with the matchmaking company for help finding someone special. Russell did the same in hopes of changing his image as a playboy. Gail couldn't believe she got matched with Russell. He is not anything like her idea of an ideal man. She also can't believe he would be interested in someone like her when he's been with some of the most beautiful women in the world. Russell quickly went from just using Gail to actually caring for her. The more he was with her, the more he wanted to make it permanent. Gail found that she really liked Russell, but had a hard time trusting that he was really changing. When part of his past started interfering with their future, Gail had to decide if he was worth the risk.
Rachel Frye plays to win. And this time the prize is a partnership at
her Manhattan ad agency. She's up against some stiff competition --
including Garrett Calder, aka The Shark. Only one of them can win.
Everyone else is out of a job.

I loved this book. It gave a pretty good idea of the cut-throat world of advertizing, as well as the emotions of the players in the book. Rachel had worked her way up in the ad agency from the mailroom. Her projects were good, though perhaps a bit on the safe side. Garrett was fairly new to the agency, but experienced in advertizing and known for his flashy campaigns. They were pitted against each other in a competition for the partnership. Rachel was well known for her excellence as a team player, where Garrett was a loner who didn't deal with anyone. Both of them found that they were spending time checking each other out. Rachel was a person who prized stability, due to the fact that her parents kept moving them around when she was growing up. Garrett accused her of not being able to let go of anyone or anything. Garrett was a loner who kept himself apart from everyone. His father was a control freak who didn't approve of Garrett's professional choices. When Garrett found himself starting to feel things for Rachel, it scared him. Then his pregnant stepmother left his father and moved in with him and things started to get really weird for him. There were a lot of things that he did that made me really disgusted with him. The final presentation that he did really ticked me off, especially when he didn't see anything wrong with it. The final chapters brought me to tears in several places, and I loved the final resolution of the competition.
They say she's Cynthia Dempsey, fiancee of media mogul Will Taylor. But

sitting by her hospital bed. Though her body certainly remembers him.
Even as she senses the distance between them, the electricity when they
touch is undeniable.
Will can hardly believe Cynthia's transformation. Gone is the ice queen
who betrayed him, and in her place is a woman who seems genuine and
warm. But can he risk his heart again, not knowing what might happen
when her memory returns?
Excellent book. This wasn't the usual amnesia story, as this combined amnesia and mistaken identity. I liked the way that Will stood by her, even though they had called off the engagement right before the plane crash. I think it said a lot about how good a person he was. That being said, he was also very cautious about the apparent change in her personality, since he had been betrayed by her before. Meanwhile, Cynthia was trying to remember the things that everyone was telling her, but none of it felt right. When she realized that her old life didn't fit anymore, she followed Will's advice and looked for something that did. I loved seeing her as she made her "new" life work for her. As the weeks went on, they got to know each other all over again and the feelings grew stronger. When the mix-up came out, Will thought she had known all along and said some really harsh things. After he had a chance to cool down, I really liked the way he made things right. There were some very emotional moments in this book that made it one of the best I've read.

Good book. I really liked Ashley. She was such a cheerful, enthusiastic person. I thought that she was exactly what Devon needed. I liked the fact that Devon hadn't wanted to deceive her. I thought her dad had his heart in the right place, wanting to make sure she was taken care of, but his execution stunk. I could see that Ashley was wiggling into Devon's heart, but he didn't realize what it meant. He just kept feeling off balance and blamed her for it. When she found out about the deal, he went after her for all those qualities. She then tried to change to get him to love her. When he finally realized what he had done, he knew he had to fix it. I loved his "go big or go home" moment. I'm looking forward to Cam's story next.

Good book. Blake really didn't want anything to do with his father's money or businesses. He was very attracted to Olivia, and had no problem pursuing her, despite their professional relationship. But he was just after sex -- he kept his emotions tightly bottled up. Olivia wanted to do what was right for Blake, but was just as strongly attracted to him. She also kept her emotions bottled up, due to an event from when she was a cop. She thought she could keep their relationship to just sex, but found that she couldn't. I really enjoyed the confrontation at the end -- it was a real wake-up call for Blake.

Very good book. I really liked Reed and the way he tried to do the right thing by not getting involved with Katrina, but he couldn't help himself. Katrina was different from the rest of the Jacobs family, thanks to going away at the age of ten. The attitudes of her family really bothered me, that they didn't really listen to her. I liked the fact that Reed did. I also loved the way he dropped everything and went to New York with Katrina. She did seem like a bit of a snob, being surprised all the time when he fit in so well in the city. The way he went about investing in things in the city was unique and really cool. I thought the confrontation with Quentin was terrific.
