Another fantastic Cavanaugh book. I love this family and the way they watch out for each other. Bridget is still adjusting to the fact that she is a member of the Cavanaugh family, and it has left her feeling a little strange. With the reappearance of the Lady Killer serial killer, she and her partner Josh are spending even more time together. She's always noticed how good looking he is, and he has been a great partner and friend. But now she is noticing a lot more. And she gets the feeling he is too. He certainly isn't acting like himself. I loved how he offered to go with her as moral support to the Cavanaugh family party when her grandfather arrived from Florida. And the way their attraction erupted when they got back to her place was hot! I enjoyed Josh's confusion over his developing feelings for Bridget. He was strictly a "no commitment" kind of guy, and she had him thinking of the future. The showdown with the bad guy definitely had my heart thumping, and Josh's panic was kind of heartwarming. I loved the nurse's reaction to the invasion of Cavanaughs at the hospital. I can't wait for the next one.
Series: Safe Harbor Medical (Book 8)
Thanks to her anonymous sperm donor, a baby is about to be more than a
gleam in Dr. Paige Brennan's eye. So why the Safe Harbor obstetrician
just agreed to further complicate her life with a roommate, she'll never
know. She still can't decide whether private detective Mike Aaron is
irresistible...or just plain irritating. Though it is nice to have a man
around the house.
Until Paige gets the sneaking suspicion that her baby's "anonymous" father is none other than her new roomie.
Helping out couples with fertility issues is one thing. Raising his own
child is something Mike never envisioned. But the mother-to-be is
bringing out his protective instincts. And some other feelings he didn't
even know he had. Things are suddenly moving a little too fast. Or is
Mike right where he belongs -- on the fast track to fatherhood?
Very good book. Not only is Paige an excellent doctor, with a good relationship with her patients and coworkers, she has a straightforward way of dealing with people. Mike had irritated her when they first met, with some rather obnoxious comments and then some sexist flirting. I liked the fact that, when she explained what bugged her, he changed his ways. They also had some real attraction going on. But Paige is pregnant and Mike has said he has no interest in ever having children. They give in to the attraction, though Paige hasn't told him she's pregnant, and she knows that because of it the relationship has no future. When Mike finds out about her pregnancy, he's thrown for a loop, especially when they figure out who the donor is. He also realizes that he's developing feelings he never expected. I liked the way he was shown his feelings at the end.

Very good book. I liked Rule, even though he was keeping the secret of his fatherhood from Sydney. When he met Sydney he was only intending to check up on her son, then leave her alone. He never expected that he and Sydney would be so intensely attracted to each other. He saw this as fate, so went ahead and proposed marriage. Sydney was leery at first, since she had had two relationships that had failed due to the men being untrustworthy. She occasionally got the impression that Rule was hiding something from her, but thought she might be imagining it. When the truth came out, she was devastated by the knowledge that he had lied to her. I loved the fact that, though she made her displeasure known, she didn't pack up and leave him. The way they addressed the problem was wonderful. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Very good book. Grace had been doing a pretty good job of running and hiding, but Sam had been looking for her to get Grace and Mikey back in protection. When Serrano caught up with them, Sam decided the safest place to take them was his family's ranch. The biggest problem was that he hadn't been back there in more than ten years. Fortunately, the only issues going back were his own. He had fled the ranch after feeling responsible for the death of his little brother, and had spent the years since then trying to overcome his guilty feelings. By returning there, Grace helped him confront those feelings while she began healing from her own traumas and guilty feelings. I liked the way that Sam helped her learn to defend herself, and how he worked to help her with her feelings. I also liked the way he made sure she got the help she needed at the end, even though he almost gave up on their feelings for each other. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Very good book. Liza's reporter's curiosity has her doing research on Max and trying to find out more about him. Because of her layoff, she is teaching instead of reporting and her investigative instincts have been on vacation. But now she is searching and the more she finds out the more curious she is. When Max finds out what she is doing, he needs to find a way to stop her. Unfortunately for him, he is very attracted to her which makes it hard for him to keep his mind on the job. When her searching draws the attention of the people he's going to testify against, it puts them both in danger. Liza has been trying to realign her sense of self, knowing that finding a new reporting job is unlikely. Her feelings about Max have her questioning her own abilities. Meanwhile, Max has been trying to unearth his own self identity after being undercover for so long. I really liked the way they finally opened up to each other, and began to trust again.

I have really liked Ford throughout the series. He is one of the few residents who hasn't fallen for Grayson's brainwashing. I loved watching him as he stood up to the sheriff while doing police work the right way. When he is assigned to protect Gemma from her ex, the attraction between them explodes. While the attraction was a good thing, I found their constant lack of control a bit off-putting considering the danger they were in. It was interesting to see how Gemma's liking of Grayson began to erode the more time she spent with Ford and the more she saw what was going on in the town. In the side story, I really liked the way that Dillon stood up for his mom and protected her.
Series: Hill Country Heroes (Book 2)

Walking away with first place could give Ty everything he ever wanted.
It could also make him lose the one woman who's ever come close to
taming this culinary cowboy!
Excellent book. I really liked both characters. Ty came across as kind of arrogant at first, with his certainty that all he had to do is smile at Grace and she'd be all over him. I loved the way she would just ignore it. I enjoyed seeing him when he was giving in to wanting to be with Grace and actually being himself instead of the public persona everyone else sees. Grace was determined to win so she could save her restaurant. I liked the way she didn't really let the other people rattle her and be confident in her abilities. The times she lost her temper were fun to watch, and the way her brothers would almost cower when she went after them was hilarious. I liked the way that Grace could see through Ty to his real self, and the way she was there for him when he needed her. The conclusion was great. I could see a version of the solution coming, but it was still well done.
Series: Thriller

chilling secrets of her past. Sensing the rekindling of an old flame,
Harlan establishes one goal: keeping Callie alive long enough to win her
back.
Good book. The tension between Harlan and Callie was obvious immediately - and not just because they had to work together. It was apparent that neither had gotten over the other. I loved Callie's grandmother's outspokenness about what Callie needed to do. With the two of them having to work together to find the fugitives and murderers, they had to put aside their differences. As the investigation and search went on, it was interesting to see who was doing what and who was really behind it all. I was glad to see that they finally started to communicate at the end.
Series: Pregnancy and Passion (Book 3)

Good book. I really liked Ashley. She was such a cheerful, enthusiastic person. I thought that she was exactly what Devon needed. I liked the fact that Devon hadn't wanted to deceive her. I thought her dad had his heart in the right place, wanting to make sure she was taken care of, but his execution stunk. I could see that Ashley was wiggling into Devon's heart, but he didn't realize what it meant. He just kept feeling off balance and blamed her for it. When she found out about the deal, he went after her for all those qualities. She then tried to change to get him to love her. When he finally realized what he had done, he knew he had to fix it. I loved his "go big or go home" moment. I'm looking forward to Cam's story next.

I really liked this book. When Emily came to London to finally confront her husband about his neglect, she did not expect to find him blind and doing his best to kill himself. He didn't recognize her when she found him in the tavern, so she decided to take advantage of that and become his mistress in an attempt to make him fall in love with her. She also couldn't stand to see him in such a hopeless condition and decided to use her position to show him that he could still have a good life. At the same time, Adrian had spent the last couple years avoiding everyone and drinking to dull the pain of losing his independence. When Emily rescued him, she bullied him into making changes in his lifestyle, and he began to see that perhaps his life wasn't ending after all. He also began to realize that he still loved his wife, and what he had done to her by abandoning her. I loved seeing her efforts and the way they paid off, even though I could see where it was going to cause problems when the deception ended. The confrontation brought me to tears, but the ending was worth it. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.

Good book. I enjoyed the story, and following the trail to find out who is blackmailing Crispin and why, and the real story behind the fire that killed Ben's father and brother. I liked both Ben and Octavia. I could see right away that their attraction and feelings were real. When they were separated in India by Octavia's aunt, I could see why that happened -- they were still too young for a really good relationship. They were also still too immature to deal with the doubts put forth by their families. When they met again in London, years later, they were finally ready. But there were still issues to be dealt with -- Ben was told lies about Octavia's wishes, so he didn't know whether he could trust her. Octavia could see that Ben had secrets that he was not sharing with her. Octavia was dealing with a man who wanted to marry her and had no problem announcing their engagement without her consent. She also wanted to help him about the blackmail. Ben was investigating several things, but keeping secrets from Octavia that were creating strain between them. The story kept me turning the pages, but wasn't quite as intense as some I've read. It won't stop me from reading more by this author.

Very good book. I loved Emily. She refused to give up on finding her son, and was doing everything she could to track down the people who took him. Mitch was assigned to follow her and ended up working with her. The more time he spent with her, the more he realized she was innocent. As they started following the clues, and evading the attempts on their lives, they also developed an attraction and feelings for each other. Emily had trouble trusting anyone, especially the police, as she has gotten little to no help from them. The conclusion was great. I really liked the help Mitch got from his family - I hope they get stories also.

This was a rather emotional book. Both Eric and Colleen had been affected by the car accident involving their parents. Sixteen years later they have been thrown together to plan the wedding of his sister and her brother. They find that their attraction is still there, but Colleen doesn't want anything to do with it. Eric works very hard to open her mind to the possibilities. I found that Eric had a lot more patience than I thought he would at the beginning and seemed to be very sensitive to Colleen's fears. I thought he was terrific with her kids. I wanted to shake Colleen a couple times for not seeing what a great guy Eric was. I'm looking forward to Deidre's story.

civilian on the run went against Rowe's lawman code, but leaving Macy

were targets, but together they might still have a fighting chance.
It's a chance he's willing to take in order to protect the one person he
could trust—and the one woman he was falling for.
Heartpounding beginning to this book. Rowe was desperate to get out before someone could kill him. Macy was terrified when the body in the bag was alive. She didn't believe his story about being undercover, but was too afraid to do anything about it. The more that happened, the more they realized that she was in danger also. I enjoyed seeing each step as they went along trying to track who was behind the corruption. I also really loved the way that Macy was a creative thinker, and had such success thinking on her feet. I'm looking forward to Jed's story.

Excellent start to a new Cooper series, this time with the cousins (six of them -- yay!!). I really liked Rick. He was determined to protect Amanda, whether she wanted him to or not. Rick regretted the way they parted three years earlier, and wanted another chance - but he had to keep her alive. Amanda had been keeping a low profile, and couldn't understand why someone was suddenly trying to kill her. It also made her reluctant to trust anyone - even Rick. But she couldn't deny that she was still attracted to him, and that she still wished they could have a future together. As they tried their best to find out who was behind the attacks and why, a bigger picture came into focus, and they realized that there was more to the attacks than just silencing Amanda. I enjoyed the chance to meet Rick's siblings, and seeing the Gossamer Ridge Coopers again too. I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Conclusion to the series. Very good book. When Carter broke out of prison and found Sadie, he thought that would be enough to set him free. What he found was that she had been used, and then stalked ever since. While he was in prison, he hadn't been able to forget her, and when they met again he found that he was still just as attracted. When someone tried to kill them both, they went on the run to try to find out who was behind his framing. As the days went by and the trail became more dangerous, their attraction and connection grew stronger. Carter didn't want to make any commitment to Sadie until he was cleared. Then he almost blew it by waiting too long. It had good suspense that kept me guessing.
Series: Quilt Shop at Kerry Springs (Book 5)

Good book. I really enjoyed the story, and I love visiting Kerry Springs and seeing old friends. I liked Alisa a lot. I liked the way she wanted to use her possible time on the city council to help the town with its economic improvements. I especially liked the way she got behind the idea of reopening the Boy and Girls Club, and did everything she could to make it happen. When she and Matt had to work together to take care of an abandoned boy, she wasn't sure she could forgive him for the way he had walked away three years before. Her feelings for Matt had never gone away, but she wasn't sure she could handle getting involved with him again. Matt was trying to cope with his return to civilian life and the nightmares he brought with him. He also had trust issues with women, and preferred to walk away first, before they could walk away from him. Alisa wanted a life with him, but every time she would get close he would push her away. The conclusion was emotional, but I think their relationship will be stronger because of it. My only problem with the book wasn't with the story, but with the proofreading. I lost count of the number of errors that would pull me out of the moment.

Until a scared and lonely dog, howling into the night, has them
literally bumping into each other! As the pooch gazes up at them, Gabe
and Nikki realize they'll have to work together on this one. Suddenly
their plans to avoid each other are crumbling around them....
I loved this book. Gabe was such a grouch that he was almost unlikable, except I could see his pain. He didn't let anyone get close to him. He never let anyone thank him when he did something for them. Nikki had come to Banksia Bay to get away from her previous life, and had no intention of letting him mess it up. When they ended up rescuing a dog, they had to work together. Gabe didn't want to get attached to another dog, but Nikki needed his help. He tried to keep her at arms length, but she just wouldn't stay there. Nikki had no intention of letting another man close to her, but she knew nothing about dogs. She could also see that Gabe was hurting and wanted to help. I loved seeing the way the people of Banksia Bay were so helpful. The climax, when the whole town turned out to help, was incredibly moving.

Good book. Both Amberly and Cole had given up on love. Cole because of the guilt he felt over his wife's death, and Amberly because she didn't think it would last. When she was called in to assist with the murder investigations, she and Cole had to work together. He wasn't thrilled because he had had a bad experience with the FBI. He also discovered that something about her got under his skin and made him start to feel again. When the serial killer went after Amberly, Cole realized that he had come to care for her. Now, he just needed to convince her. The suspense was good, trying to figure out who did it was challenging.

Fantastic book. I love Stephanie Laurens' books, and this was another terrific Cynster book. Angelica knew as soon as she saw him that she wanted the man that she saw across the ballroom. And being a Cynster woman, she went after him - only to find out that he was the mysterious Scotsman who had kidnapped her sisters. This time, Dominic explains the problem to Angelica who consents to help him. He has stated his intention to marry her at the end of the process. That is her wish also, but she refuses to consent immediately, as she intends to make sure he loves her first. I love Angelica, as she has the intelligence and determination to give him the assistance he needs. She is also able to assist him in avoiding her family. I love the parts where we see the Cynsters - men and women - as they try to figure out what is going on in their own ways. Watching as Angelica got to know Dominic's people, and they got to know her, showed how perfect she was for him. I also loved watching Dominic's confusion as he tried to understand her - he had no personal experience with Cynster women and he didn't know what to do. I loved the scene in Edinburgh with the purchase of her horse - it had me laughing out loud. Their trip to his home went pretty smoothly, then it was on to their attempts to get what they needed from his mother. Dominic was completely blown away by Angelica's acting abilities. The conclusion was classic Stephanie Laurens, and the epilogue was great.

Good book. When Hayley was taken, she was naturally afraid of what was going on. I really liked the way she kept pretty calm through the whole thing. She tried very hard to find out what was going on, and ended up being friendly with all the guys except Quinn. Quinn is very intense, and as leader doesn't give up any information. He does find himself enjoying Hayley's company, which is unique itself. I liked the way her attitude and conversation would amuse him, which startled him because it so rarely happened. I also liked the way Hayley jumped in and helped during the two attacks. I loved the dog -- he is so cool with the way he took to Quinn and helped the team with their mission. I am really looking forward to seeing more of him and also the rest of the team.

Very good book. At the beginning, I didn't care much for Georgia. She was selfish and spoiled, and intent only on finding a new husband that would keep her in style. I did like Dracy from the beginning. He was determined to bring his estate back from ruin, and had a plan to make it happen. When Georgia's father comes to him and offers his daughter in marriage, he is tempted. Not just for the money, but for Georgia herself. Georgia has been tasked by her parents to help Dracy fit in - she knows nothing about the offer. As she tries to regain her life in the beau monde, the old scandal is brought back to life. Dracy is there through it all, helping to protect her, and trying to find out who is causing the trouble. As time goes on, more information comes out, and both of them are threatened. I really liked the way that Dracy took care of Georgia. I was also glad to see her mature as the book went on, and see how she came to care for him. I loved seeing the way Dracy's mind worked to puzzle out who was causing the trouble.

Good book. Mia had come to work for Bronson's mom, from working for his greatest rival. Because of his past with his ex-fiancee, Bronson did not trust Mia at all, but was physically attracted to her. When they gave in to their passions one night, Mia ended up pregnant. Due to his trust issues, Bronson had a hard time believing the baby was his. He also had a feeling that Mia was hiding something from him. She was -- she had come across some information, but was asked to keep it secret until the right time. As the weeks went on, Bronson found himself falling for Mia, and able to believe that the baby is his. Mia has also fallen for him, but keeping the secret is tearing her up. When it all comes out Bronson feels betrayed by Mia and his mother. Mia refuses to give up hope, but Bronson has a hard time coming to grips with the information and Mia's part in it. I hope there will be stories for the other two very soon.

Really good book. Sydney and Derek struck sparks off each other from the beginning. She thought he was rude and condescending and he thought she was a snob. Sydney had come to Weaver to try to change her life. She wanted to stand on her own feet and make a good life for her baby. She didn't want Derek bossing her around and trying to take care of her. Derek couldn't help comparing Sydney to his ex-fiancee. It took awhile, but he finally started to realize that they were nothing alike. When they finally stopped sniping at each other, they discovered that they had a lot in common. I loved the way Sydney became part of the community so quickly. It was great to see how everyone supported her at the end.

The
Fortunes and the Mendozas had been anxiously awaiting Javier's
recovery. Finally he was on the mend, and no one was happier than his
nurse, Leah Roberts. She'd been his rock during the ordeal, but now she
was having thoughts that were most unprofessional. She was losing her heart to her flirty, sweet-talking patient.
But did Javier also have a case of true love?
Good book. I liked Javier - he was a nice guy. His biggest problem was a lack of patience regarding his recovery. Because of his injuries, he felt that he wasn't the man he was before the tornado struck. As a result, he didn't really want to get involved with Leah until he felt he was recovered. Leah did her best to resist his appeal, feeling it would be unprofessional to have a relationship with a patient. Once he was out of the hospital, resistance was much harder. I really liked seeing the way the rest of the family provided support for Javier, and how much they liked Leah.
