After this, nothing is the same!
Kara Steward and Lucas Montgomery have always been the best of friends.
As doctors, they're too busy saving the world to commit to anything
more. Still, Kara knows exactly who to go to when she needs a little
support. But one night she turns to Lucas and…everything changes. And
once they've crossed that line to more than friends, it's impossible to
go back.
Their situation is even more tangled when Kara's job calls her away for
several weeks. How can they talk about the new "them" when she's half a
world away? She can't put off this discussion too long, however. Not
after she discovers there's a baby to consider….
Very good book. Kara and Lucas have been friends for seventeen years. When Kara comes back from one of her overseas jobs she is feeling burned out and goes to Lucas for some downtime and support. But that support morphs into passion and then she's called away again. While she's away she gets very sick and then discovers that she's pregnant. She comes back to Atlanta to recover and tell Lucas about the baby. He is flabbergasted by the news, but also very worried about Kara's health. I really liked both Kara and Lucas. He is a terrific doctor who works with the poor of Atlanta. He also takes care of his mother and sisters who are terribly flighty and irresponsible. He is worried about how his relationship with Kara will change now, but quickly realizes that she has always been the person that has grounded him. When he accepts the fact that he loves her he knows he has to convince her that he doesn't see her as just another responsibility. Kara has always been very independent. She is always there for Lucas, but never asks him for help. Because of her past she has never been able to trust that someone will be there for her whenever needed, so she refuses to lean on anyone, even Lucas. When she tells him about the baby she wants to maintain her independence and not be a burden he has to bear. She finally admits to herself that she loves him, but doesn't know what to do about it. I loved seeing them finally come together. I would like to know what happens when the baby is born and if it is healthy, and also what happens with Lucas's sister.
This was not his professional plan. Dr. Jack
Alexander -- dedicated surgeon and humanitarian -- never expected an
accident would end his time in the O.R. Nor did he expect to have to
abandon his aid work. Now, back in Atlanta, he's faced with rebuilding
his career...his life. And his hope for the future comes from the least
likely source -- the little family next door.
From the first moment he spots Sophie Connors having a water fight with
her young sons, Jack is captivated. She defies all of his assumptions
about family and relationships. Too bad she resists committing. Somehow
he has to change her mind. Because together they may find that life
doesn't always turn out the way you planned...sometimes, it turns out
even better.
Very good book. We first met Jack in In the Beginning, when he was instrumental in bringing Dr. Amanda Jones, to save her life. Now it is his turn to come home. While working as a surgeon in Somalia, Jack was shot, injuring his hand in such a way he can no longer do surgery. Now he is in Atlanta, working at Amanda's clinic, trying to figure out who he is and what to do with the rest of his life. All he can really see is what he can't do, which makes him feel less of a man. When he moves in next to Sophie and her two boys he doesn't expect anything of it. But from the beginning he is drawn to the little family. The boys bring a sense of fun back into his life, and Sophie begins to awaken feelings he never anticipated. Sophie also had no intention of getting involved. Something she saw in Jack called to her, and she found herself making friends with him first. It wasn't long before their friendship turned into more. But Jack was still suffering with a lot of insecurities due to his injuries and found himself overreacting to some things with Sophie. I loved the way that Amanda called him on his idiocy, and how he finally saw the light. The end was very emotional and really made the story feel even more real.

New Job. New Home. New Dad?
When Kenzie Green relocates to Atlanta, she isn't looking for a man to
complete her family. Then she meets her enigmatic new neighbor across
the hall. Jonathan Trelauney seems to know just how to handle Kenzie's
domestic handful. And her kids are already falling in love with the
widowed artist.
Kenzie's twin son and daughter are shattering his peace...and JT loves
every minute of it! They're slowly but surely bringing him out of his
reclusive shell. Now he'd like to do the same for their independent
single mom. Can JT make Kenzie see that he's a man she can count on?
That he can be the husband and father her family needs?
Good book. Kenzie has moved to Atlanta to make a new and better life for herself and her kids. Her ex-husband was a musician who had not been reliable at all, and she had been the one who had to do everything. When she first met JT she thought he was just another flaky artistic type. When JT first met Kenzie and her kids, they scared him to death. He was still trying to recover from the deaths of his wife and baby, and being around them made him start to feel. I loved the way that JT began spending time with the family and slowly started to get back to his painting. It was painful at times to watch both Kenzie and JT as they would advance and retreat, but it was a great healing process.

Okay, life has been tough recently. Dr. Amanda Jacobs is finally ready
to admit that -- and do something about it. Stateside again, she's
focused on reestablishing her medical career. Sure, it's not the
stop-your-heart stress of working in war-torn countries. But right now
she needs a little less stress.
And that means she doesn't need the distraction of Simon Hart. The way
Amanda sees it, their on-again-off-again relationship can stay off. Even
though he's more charming than ever, is there too much between them to
get over? Still, a part of her wonders if this is their chance to be
together...forever.
Excellent book. There was so much emotion in this book it was overwhelming at times. When Simon showed up in Africa he was shocked by her condition. She also wanted nothing to do with him. Once he had her back in Atlanta, he had to try to overcome his mistakes of the past and try to convince her to give him another chance. She had a hard time trusting him not to abandon her again, as he did after the death of their daughter. She had to feel as though she was in control of her life, and able to stand on her own, and didn't want to risk depending on him. He wanted to show her she could depend on him to be there for her, but had to keep from making her think he thought she couldn't do it herself. There were several times I wasn't sure they'd ever be able to make it work. By the end, their relationship was stronger than ever.
