One Winter's Night - Brenda Jackson (HD #2197 - Dec 2012)

Series: Westmorelands (Book 24)

Riley Westmoreland never mixes business with pleasure-until he meets his company's gorgeous new party planner. But when he gets Alpha Blake into bed, he realizes one night will never be enough. That's when her past threatens to end their affair. So Riley does what any Westmoreland male would do...he vows to win her heart-for good.

Very good book.  Both Riley and Alpha are people who know what they want and have no problem going after it.  Alpha moved to Denver from Florida after ending her engagement.  When she is hired to be the event planner for a Westmoreland party, she is immediately attracted to Riley, but has no plans to risk her heart again.  Riley has kept his emotions out of his affairs for a long time, after seeing what the loss of love did to one of his brothers.  He has what he calls "Riley's Rules".  He will date a woman for no more than six weeks, at which point the relationship ends.  If she starts expecting more, he ends it immediately.  When he meets Alpha the attraction is immediate and intense.  He makes it plain that he is interested in a no-strings affair for no more than six weeks.  She accepts and the passion between them is incredible.  Riley finds himself doing things with Alpha he had never done with another woman - just hanging out, going for walks, just talking.  He even takes her to a couple events with his family which he has never done before.  This makes him nervous but he can't stop wanting more from her.  The Westmorelands have a great love of family which is why he doesn't understand why she always changes the subject when her family comes up.  I love the way he finally admitted to himself that he had fallen in love with her, and how he knew he needed to show her that he didn't want to end things at six weeks.  I loved the way that his affair turned into a really sweet courtship.  Alpha decided to accept Riley's offer of an affair.  She was very willing to give in to her attraction to him and enjoy what time they could have together.  The passion was off the charts and she found that she wished it could go on.  But she had agreed to the time limit.  She found as the days went on that she liked spending time with Riley out of the bedroom too.  The only thing she kept back was talking about her family, especially her sister, since that is what had caused problems before.  She wasn't sure that she could trust that it wouldn't happen again.  I liked the way that she finally told him everything and what his reaction was.  The secret was certainly not something that I had expected and it was really neat to see how Alpha stood up for her sister.  I'm looking forward to seeing who falls next.

Corner-Office Courtship - Victoria Pade (HSE #2217 - Oct 2012)

Series: Camdens of Colorado (Book 1)

WHEN A CEO COMES A-CALLING...
...What's a girl like small business owner Natalie Morrison to do, especially when said CEO is Cade Camden? First, there's the fact that his family double-crossed hers a few generations back. It's even worse that this rich boy is so darn charismatic-just like the ex-husband who walked all over her. Nati won't let herself swoon anytime soon.

Cade is on a mission for his grandmother-to make amends for the Camdens' ruthless treatment of the Morrisons in the early days of Camden Incorporated. But is matchmaking Gran's ulterior motive? Because there's something so kissable about Nati...so tempting. He's here to mend fences...can he mend this woman's broken heart, too?

Good book.  Cade had been told by his grandmother to get to know Natalie and find a way to make amends for the wrongs done by his great-grandfather.  So Cade hired her to do some decorating work in his house and thought that would be the end of it.  He didn't expect to be attracted to her, and then actually like her.  So he kept finding reasons to spend time with her, even though he didn't want it to go anywhere.  Natalie was thrilled to have the job, but worried about how her grandfather would take her working for the Camdens.  There was some bad blood there and she didn't want to cause him distress.  I really liked both Cade and Nati.  Cade really had no intention of getting that close to Nati.  He had had a couple bad experiences with women who were not wealthy and didn't want to take any chances.  But he just couldn't stay away from her.  The more time he was with her, the more he wanted, and the more he realized that she was nothing like those other women.  Nati was very cautious around Cade.  She had been married to a wealthy man who was completely immature and whose family had made her life miserable before and after their divorce.  So she wanted nothing to do with getting involved with another rich man.  But the more time she spent with him the more she came to care - and the more she was scared of what could happen.  I loved the way Cade's grandmother got them together at the end.  Even though we didn't see much of her, I loved his grandmother.  She may have been rich, but she had a very healthy outlook on life and had raised her grandchildren with wonderful values.  She was appalled at the information in the journals that her other grandson, Seth, had found in Northbridge (see The Camden Cowboy) and wanted to make things right.  I also loved seeing her with Nati's grandfather at the end, and have a feeling we'll be seeing more of the two of them together.

Strictly Temporary - Robyn Grady (HD #2169 - July 2012)

Series: Billionaires and Babies

Discovering an abandoned baby in the backseat of a taxi was not on hotelier Zack Harrison's agenda. Luckily, a stunning stranger comes to his aid - and piques his interest. But before Child Services can arrive, a snowstorm strands the trio in Zack's luxurious Colorado cabin.

Trinity Matthews wants to resist Zack's advances, but his care and concern for her and the baby soon have her melting. As the snow falls and the heat sizzles, it's not long before Trinity's sleeping in his bed. And she finds herself wondering if their temporary arrangement could have permanent effects.

Good book.  When Zack found an abandoned baby in  a cab, he didn't know what to do.  When Trinity came to his rescue, they ended up at Zack's home, snowed in.  Zack has a reputation as a ruthless businessman and a playboy.  He does admit to being a committed bachelor with no interest in long term relationships.  Trinity is a product of the foster care system and doesn't intend to go the family route either, as she would have no one as a backup in case something were to happen to her.  When they are snowed in with the baby, they need to provide care for her while fighting their attraction.  Zack isn't comfortable around babies, so he leaves the hand-on stuff to Trinity, at least at the beginning.  It's not long before Trinity has him participating fully, though he still tries to remain emotionally distant.  When the storm is over and the baby is back with her mother, both return to their lives in New York.  Neither one can forget the other, and get together for one of Zack's family's parties.  They are called back to Colorado to help the baby's mother, where she asks Trinity and Zack to adopt the baby to give her a better life.  Zack panics and leaves, while Trinity and the baby's mother come to an arrangement that works for them.  I loved seeing them cope with the baby during the storm, and seeing Zack get won over gave me warm fuzzies.  I wanted to smack him for being so blindly stubborn, and enjoyed his conversations with his brother and father.  I liked the way that Zack came through at the end.

The Surprise of Her Life - Helen R. Myers (HSE #2190 - May 2012)

Eve Easton had had enough "neighbor" trauma to last a lifetime, seeing as how her now ex-husband had run off with the woman next door. So off Eve went, to a new state, a new city, a new everything -- only to find out her new next-door neighbor was her fellow dumpee, Derek Roland. The tall, dark and handsome former spouse of the woman Eve's ex left her for. Got it?

Well, she got it. And when it came to her neighborly policy, she was strictly "hands-off." Only she had a hard time resisting Derek, as did he, her. Seems as though both of them had traveled miles and miles just to find what they were looking for...right in their own backyard....

Terrific book.  I really liked Derek.  Besides being tall, dark and hunky, he is a truly nice guy.  I loved the way that he took care of Eve when they went out.  I could see how much he cared right away, and that he was doing his best not to rush Eve into more than she could handle.  Eve was great, too.  She started out fighting the relationship, thanks to the damage her ex-husband did to her self-esteem.  I loved the way that her boss was so good to her and helped her realize that she deserved to be happy.  I almost cried when Eve appeared ready to throw it all away, and was so glad when her boss helped Derek get together with her again.  Derek's superior's visit at the end of the book was great.  I loved the respect he showed to Derek.  I also loved the way that Eve and her boss coped with the wife's nasty attitude, and Eve's confrontation with her at the end was great.  When Derek and Eve were together I could feel the love between them.  I laughed at Eve's calling Derek "G-man", and the way they completed each other.

Feeling the Heat - Brenda Jackson (HD #2149 - Apr 2012)

Series: Westmorelands (Book 22)

Their long-ago affair had ended too abruptly. And Dr. Micah Westmoreland knows Kalina Daniels hasn't forgiven him. But now that they're working side by side, he can't ignore the heat that still burns between them. This time, there will be no question about his motive...he plans to make her his.

Very good book.  I liked the way that Micah admitted that he let his anger keep him from going after Kalina two years before.  And that he was determined to prove to her he had been telling her the truth.  Kalina had held on to her anger and hurt until they ended up working together again.  As Micah did his best to show her who he really was and that she could trust him, she realized that she hadn't stopped caring for him.  I enjoyed seeing their trip to Denver, and watching her get to know the other Westmorelands.  I also loved seeing how the other wives talked to her about what it was like being with a Westmoreland man.

Finding Her Son - Robin Perini (HI #1340 - Mar 2012)

Investigating a cold case is SWAT cop Mitch Bradford's worst nightmare—especially when it involves a kidnapped infant. But thanks to an injury, he'll have to settle for following Emily Wentworth instead of breaking down doors and cuffing criminals. The prime suspect in a mysterious disappearance, Emily has always claimed she was framed. And as he earns the trust of the incredibly desperate—and unbelievably beautiful—mother, every instinct tells Mitch to believe her. Then new evidence unfolds, revealing an elaborate conspiracy and forcing Emily into a deadly spotlight. Now, torn between loyalty to the badge and his promises to Emily, Mitch may have to make the ultimate sacrifice if he's to bring her little boy home.

Very good book.  I loved Emily.  She refused to give up on finding her son, and was doing everything she could to track down the people who took him.  Mitch was assigned to follow her and ended up working with her.  The more time he spent with her, the more he realized she was innocent.  As they started following the clues, and evading the attempts on their lives, they also developed an attraction and feelings for each other.  Emily had trouble trusting anyone, especially the police, as she has gotten little to no help from them. The conclusion was great.  I really liked the help Mitch got from his family - I hope they get stories also.
