Big Shot - Joanna Wayne (HI #1383 - Nov 2012)

Series:  Big D Dads (Book 3)

Fate brought Texas rancher Durk Lambert face-to-face with his ex-lover, Meghan Sinclair. The reckless but gorgeous P.I. had been beaten and left for dead, with no memory of her attacker, of Durk…or herself. Years ago she'd broken his heart, but no cowboy walked away from a woman in need.

While Durk kept her safe on his Bent Pine Ranch, his own memories threatened him -- laughing with Meghan, making love. He still wanted her, but he feared Meghan was the one woman he could never have -- and the one he'd lay down his life to protect. Because while Durk wanted her to remember, a killer needed her to forget.…

Good book.  I liked both Durk and Meghan.  Durk was at the hospital with his aunt when Meghan was brought in after being beaten.  They had broken up two years before, but Durk still cared and made sure he was there for her.   In order to protect her while she was trying to recover her memory he took her home with him.  As they spent time together he was reminded of all the things he loved about her, but also of what had torn them apart.  I really liked his protectiveness and how he tried to keep her safe.  I also liked the way he tried to make her see how her activities tore him up with worry about her.  Meghan was a very determined woman.  She was very good at her job and never let anything stop her from doing what she felt was needed to get it done.  Her loss of memory was frustrating for her because she was sure that if she could remember the events she would be able to solve the case.  She also wished she could remember her relationship with Durk.  She was still attracted to him and would like to see where it might go, but can't think about it until she can remember.  When the final showdown occurs and she regains her memory she finally realizes what is most important.

Midnight Under the Mistletoe - Sara Orwig (HD #2195 - Nov 2012)

Series: Lone Star Legacy (Book 3)

She didn't look like any secretary he'd ever met
Billionaire Zach Delaney needs a live-in assistant while he recuperates from an injury. But when Emma Hillman arrives at his Texas ranch with her suitcase, he knows he'll have to work hard to resist her. She's sexy and efficient, but way too family-oriented for a risk-taking globe-trotter like him.

Emma is supposed to type, file and sort through centuries-old Delaney family letters-not be seduced by her gorgeous boss into a can't-last affair. But as she tries to transform Zach into a man who values family, she ends up expecting a Delaney of her own. Will Zach head for his jet...or welcome his Christmas heir?

Very good book.  I liked both Zach and Emma.  Zach is very much a loner, thanks to the rather dysfunctional upbringing he had.  His mother abandoned the family and he and his brothers were sent to separate boarding schools so they never really had a chance to bond as a family.  That improved a little as they got older, but he was still more comfortable alone.  He was immediately attracted to Emma, but he didn't understand her and her devotion to her family.  It was interesting seeing him fight the way that she made him feel, and the way that she tried to get him to see how important family is.  I did like the way he is so loving toward his niece.  He was so intent on leaving for Christmas and being on his own like usual that he just couldn't understand why it had suddenly lost its appeal.  I loved the way that he was finally able to connect with his past.  Emma was so family oriented that she knew nothing would come of a relationship with Zach.  But she also couldn't resist him and thought that she would be able to handle a short term relationship.  I really liked the way she got so invested in reading the papers from the Delaney ancestors and how she tried to show Zach how important they were.  She soon discovered that she loved him even though she was sure nothing would ever come of it.  When she realized she was pregnant she was sure that he would still not be interested in settling down, even though she was certain he would still care for the baby.  I really liked the way that he came to her and convinced her of his love before he knew about the baby.

Live Ammo - Joanna Wayne (HI #1361 - July 2012)

Series: Big D Dads (Book 2)

A DESPERATE MOTHER...
Alexis Beranger never could have anticipated the shock of being carjacked with her son still in the backseat. Or that Tague Lambert, part of the rich and famous Lamberts of Dallas, would be there to help. But most earthshattering of all was learning that the attack wasn't random -- only a prelude to the danger stalking her every move.

...AND THE COWBOY WHO CAME TO HER RESCUE
While their chance meeting occurred under the gravest of circumstances, Tague felt an instant attraction with Alexis that he just couldn't shake. Through with playing it safe, Tague vowed to protect this beautiful stranger and her vulnerable little boy, no matter how high the stakes. After all, a cowboy never ignored an innocent in distress -- especially a cowboy who carried the Lambert name.

Very good book that started with a heart-stopping chase.  When her car was stolen with her son still inside, she convinced Tague to follow the car so it wouldn't get away.  When talking to the police about the theft, Tague realized that Alexis was hiding something.  He talked her into coming home to his ranch with him so he could protect her, though she tried to talk him into just letting them run.  The more things came out about Alexis and her problems, the more Tague wondered if he should trust her.  But his instincts said she was innocent of the accusations against her, and he was determined to help her.  I really liked both Tague and Alexis.  Alexis was determined to do whatever she needed to in order to protect her son.  She didn't want to get Tague caught in her problems and risk his life or his freedom, but she was very glad he was on her side.  She was also very attracted to him, but didn't want to give in to it until her problems were cleared up.  Tague was a wonderfully honorable cowboy who was determined to help Alexis despite his misgivings.  His head said to be wary, but his heart was sure she was innocent.  I really liked the way that he put so much into helping her.  The conclusion was tense, but ended well.  I also liked seeing Damien and Emma from the first book, and the way they came running to help.

Exquisite Acquisitions - Charlene Sands (HD #2174 - Aug 2012)

Series: The Highest Bidder (Book 2)

Sold to the Sexy Cowboy!
For Macy Tarlington, the only good part of seeing her legendary mother's possessions sold at auction is ogling Carter McCay, the tall Texan who buys the famous diamond ring. Even better is seeing him again when he rescues her from the paparazzi like a white knight in a Stetson.

Carter whisks her to safety at Wild River Ranch, hiding her identity by day and lusting after her by night. Yes, he's sworn off love. But with the Hollywood runaway starring in his every fantasy, Carter may find Macy too much temptation-even for a hard-hearted cowboy.

Good book.  I liked both Macy and Carter.  Macy had to sell her mother's things in order to settle her mom's debts and also settle a couple lawsuits against herself.  I liked the way she stood up for herself in the actions that caused her to be sued.  Carter was hurt by his girlfriend's refusal of his proposal and swore he'd never propose to another woman.  He and Macy had noticed each other at the auction and felt an immediate attraction, but never expected to see each other again.  When he saw Macy being hounded by the paparazzi, he stepped in and rescued her, then invited her to his ranch to get away.  Macy immediately fell in love with the place, and soaked up the peace and quiet.  Then she talked Carter into letting her restore a building on his property, which gave her a sense of purpose that she had been missing.  I loved the way that Carter and Macy spent time together getting to know each other and sharing their lives and dreams.  When they finally gave in to their passion there was a connection that was deeper than just the physical, even though neither wanted to admit it.  When Macy reached the conclusion that Carter was never going to love her, she left and went home.  It took Carter awhile, and a discussion with one of his employees/friends, before he realized that he loved Macy and wanted her in his life forever.  I loved the story of the ring, and the conclusion of the story was great.

His Marriage to Remember - Kathie DeNosky (HD #2161 - June 2012)

Series: The Good, the Bad and the Texan (Book 1)

Rafferty Vs. Rafferty
Her heart breaking, Bria Rafferty is about to hand-deliver divorce papers to her husband when he's knocked unconscious. Now he remembers nothing of the past six months. Not Bria's unhappiness. Not the harrowing event that made her walk out the door. Sam thinks they still live together at the Sugar Creek Ranch. That his money is all she needs. That everything is just fine.

To help him heal, Bria moves back home. But once there, she can't resist a stolen embrace...a stolen night. Can she bear leaving him a second time? Or will she find the courage to stay?

Good book.  Bria and Sam still loved each other, but Bria couldn't live with him anymore.  When she returned to the ranch to care for him after his accident, he didn't remember their pending divorce.  Bria found that it was difficult to play the part of happily married under those circumstances, but she didn't want to cause Sam any stress by reminding Sam.  Having him at home caused them to spend more time together, making her remember what it was like when they were first married.  Sam started getting his memory back pretty quickly, but didn't tell Bria because he wanted a chance to make things right.  He had trouble understanding what went wrong, because he hadn't really been listening when Bria tried to tell him.  As they spent time together, he finally started to understand what her complaints had been.  He also understood that a large part of it had been his refusal to share his past with her, so that she could understand why he was the way he was.  It took her leaving again for him to realize what he needed to do.  I really liked all the brothers and the way they looked out for Sam and Bria.  I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series.

Son of a Gun - Joanna Wayne (HI #1341 - Apr 2012)

Series: Big D Dads (Book 1)

Amid a freak snowstorm, Texas rancher Damien Lambert made the unlikeliest find on his Bent Pine Ranch -- a bloodied woman and her infant daughter in hiding. Though her story was transparent as ice, the heat he saw in her eyes made him offer her refuge.

After a ruthless kidnapping and a harrowing escape, Emma Muran needed a hero...and the baby needed a home. She'd found both in Damien -- the perfect man with a cowboy's swagger and a lover's touch -- until he learned about the incredible danger they faced. After that, Emma knew it would take all the cowboy Damien had to keep her and the child alive.

Very good book.  I thought Emma was very resourceful in getting away from her kidnapper and rescuing the baby along the way.  Her rescue by Damien was just what she needed, though she didn't want to draw him into her problems, and intended to leave the next day.  When she finally trusted him enough to tell him the whole story Damien went into full protector mode.  He had known she was lying with the first story, but still felt that she needed his help.  I liked the way that they worked together to get Caudillo.  I also liked the fact that they didn't act on their attraction until the problem was solved.  I loved Damien's family and the way that they cared for each other.  I'm looking forward to stories for the other two brothers.
